Maduganga is characterized by 15 true islands which are surrounded by water throughout the year. And thus constitutes one of the most beautiful and picturesque landscapes in the area. The inhabitants of the area claim that there are 64 islands within Maduganga, however these islands are not surrounded by water throughout the year.

Mahaduwa or Maduwa is the biggest island. Sathapaheduwa (five cent coin island), the tiny island has got legend about its name. it’s because of shape or the value was brought it in the past. Kothduwa Island brings the historical and religional value to the Maduganga.
